Hagar

I recently read this post  from the blog, Women in the Scriptures, about Hagar, the concubine/wife of Abraham, and mother to Ishmael, the father of the Arabic nations. When I was growing up, I never gave Hagar's story much thought--though I did think she was treated pretty unfairly. Since moving to Saudi Arabia, I've read the book of Genesis three times and have spent more time thinking about Hagar and the significance of her story.

I think Heather did a wonderful job discussing Hagar's story. Enjoy her insights!

  2. Thanks for sharing this link. It's hard to imagine that all the conflict which exists in the Middle East today stems from the relationship of these five people, Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Isaac and Ishmael.

  3. I think it's an LDS thing to sort of vilify Hagar. I've never heard particularly kind words about her, and the "Living Scriptures" cartoon doesn't show her in the best light, if I remember correctly. Thanks for the link, that was a beautiful post.
I see a couple of good friends constantly posting things on FB about how Muslims are bad and want us all murdered in our beds or better yet in public... I have no idea how that sort of thing is promulgated especially among Christians and LDS people, considering Islam is probably closer to our religion than most Christian ones. Sigh, all I can do is refute when I know how, and remind them that our church (and all of them probably) is often made out to be bad in many ridiculous ways b/c of the actions of a few crazy people.
    Miss and love you all!
